The School of Law and Social Science have over 40 years’ experience offering a range of degrees. We pride ourselves on providing a vibrant, stimulating, friendly and sociable environment in which to study. The School is housed within the historic and imposing 19th century Harris Building which internally has been fully refurbished to provide a modern, state of the art learning environment for law, criminology and social science students.

Our alumni are highly sought-after and can be found working in a wide range of careers all over the world. Recent criminology alumni have secured roles within the police, prisons, and branches of the Home Office including the Border Agency and the Criminal Justice Social Work. Law graduates can be found working as judges, Queen’s Counsel, barristers and solicitors, as well as many who are utilising their legal skills in other industries, such as media, education, civil service and banking.
Students have the option for international travel, whether it’s studying a semester or two abroad - for example at UCLan’s Cyprus campus - or participating in one of our many organised study trips, which in recent years have included visits to the institutions of the European Union in Brussels and the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg; UEFA’s HQ in Geneva; the Court of Arbitration for Sport and the United Nations; and Auschwitz, Poland.
The School offers a full portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in both law, criminology and social science. Our undergraduate law courses are all validated by the legal professions as qualifying law degrees enabling students to pursue the professional side of training as either a solicitor or barrister. Our criminology degree courses provide students with an opportunity to critique the criminal law and criminal justice system from a social, economic and cultural viewpoint and to pursue careers within the broader public and community based services. The School also offers a wide range of Continuing Professional Development opportunities, many of which are tailored to individual stakeholder needs.
