We have a wide range of accommodation options available which offer great value for money in a safe, vibrant and inclusive halls community. We also offer guidance and support for students wishing to choose private student housing. Read on to discover your options and the benefits of living right on campus.

Preston accommodation

Our Preston Campus boasts a wide range of student accommodation to choose from, all with modern comfortable living and within easy walking distance of your lectures and the city centre.

We offer a range of self-catering halls with a choice of en-suite flats or shared facilities. All bills for gas, electricity and water are included in the rent, plus free internet and Wi-Fi.

In addition, we provide a 24-hour security presence with CCTV and each hall has an on-site team that are on hand to help with queries arising out of hours.

Burnley halls

Our brand new halls of residence has recently opened in Burnley and offers great value for money in the heart of the city centre.

Sandygate is an 136-bed building with car parking which offers a safe and comfortable living environment and the best University halls experience. 

Friendly and helpful on-site staff are available to assist students who live in halls, and aim to create a vibrant and inclusive halls community. Our security team also provide a 24 hour, 7 days a week service, including CCTV monitoring of the hall to ensure everyone's safety and wellbeing.

Westlakes Campus

Westlakes accommodation

Many of our students studying out our Westlakes Campus choose to stay at Summergrove Halls. A private accommodation which is highly recommended by the University.

Located in close to the campus in Whitehaven, and nestled amongst beautiful gardens, Summergrove Halls offer quality, affordable and modern accommodation for students undertaking their studies. It also provides the perfect base for exploring the beautiful West Cumbrian coastline or the Western Lake District.

When you accept a room offer with us, you need to agree to a legally binding contract for a period of time, the standard dates for these contracts are shown below.

When you receive your room offer the dates of the contract, along with the full price will be clearly displayed to you before you decide whether to accept the room offer.

  • UK Students – 13/09/2020 to 03/07/2021 inclusive – (42 weeks)
  • EU/International Students – 09/09/2020 to 03/07/2021 inclusive (42 weeks and 4 nights)

Longer term contracts are available for students who are studying specific courses, ie Dentistry/Dental Hygiene and MBBS – please contact us for details.

We also offer shorter contracts for students who are only studying at the University for a single Semester; the dates for these are as follows:

  • Semester 1 – 09/09/2020 – 14/01/2021 inclusive (18 weeks and 2 nights)
  • Semester 2 – 13/01/2021 – 03/07/2021 inclusive (24 weeks and 4 nights)

The Conditions of Residence form part of a contractual agreement between UCLan and the student. It is important you read this so you are aware of what the University expects of you whilst you are living in our halls.

If you fail to comply with the conditions of residence you can be fined, transferred to other accommodation or even have your accommodation contract terminated.

Please note, any accommodation offers are separate to your study offers, and additional fees apply.

We have a number of specially adapted rooms on campus and you will be given extra consideration if you have a disability or medical condition that requires you to live on campus.

A number of rooms in halls of residence offer one or more of the following:

  • Specially adapted bathroom
  • Emergency pull cord in bedroom
  • Red flashing lights for D/deaf students
  • Alerter systems for D/deaf students
  • Private shower
  • Kitchens designed for wheelchair users
  • If a Social Services assessment identifies you as needing assistance with daily living, personal assistants may be accommodated. If they are in University accommodation you must sign their contract on their behalf.
  • Assistance dogs can be accommodated.

You must declare your disability or medical condition in your UCAS application. You will be asked to provide testimony from your doctor or medical practitioner, confirming the disability or medical condition and whether it will impact on independent living in a residential hall environment.

Please ensure you send the testimony and a covering letter from yourself as soon as possible after submitting your application in order to avoid delays in processing. Testimony does not need to be provided for UCAS codes 01/51 - Dyslexia/Dyspraxia/ADHD –applications.

Private accommodation

If you would prefer to live in a shared house or an apartment, the University manages a registration scheme for private landlords ranging from shared houses to large purpose-built halls of residence, all within walking distance to the campus. Accommodation staff have inspected many of these properties and the landlords must abide by the requirements of our scheme.
