Clearing next steps

Clearing

Applied through Clearing and wondering what happens next? We're here to guide you through the next steps, from student finance to accommodation and wellbeing support.

What should I do now?

Congratulations on your offer for your chosen course through Clearing. Below you'll find a step-by-step guide to what happens next.

  1. If you have already applied through UCAS and have a UCAS Personal ID:

    • Go to UCAS Hub (previously UCAS Track);
    • Go to the 'your choices' section;
    • Click 'add Clearing choice';
    • Add the course details listed in your Clearing offer email.

    The Admissions Team will then review the referral and confirm your place. You may need to send in evidence of qualifications or results to confirm your offer. Call us on +44 (0)1772 892444 if you have any questions.

    If you have not applied through UCAS:

    • Look out for your Clearing offer email from our Admissions Team asking you for further details and/or to complete a form.
    • Return your completed form together with a clear colour photograph of your original qualifications (certificates or transcripts) to show that you meet the entry requirements.

    Once our Admissions Team have received your documents, they will process your application, this may take a minimum of five working days. When satisfied that your details match up with the information you provided to us verbally, your place will be confirmed via email.

  2. We had regular bookable campus tours taking place at our Preston and Burnley campuses for Clearing 2023. This gives you the opportunity to see where you'll be studying and get a feel for UCLan. You will also be able to look around our accommodation.

    If you'd like to visit us our Westlakes Campus please email the team so that we can arrange a tour for you.

    If you're not able to attend campus in person, you can still explore your new home by viewing 360 guided tours and other exclusive content.

  3. Our average monthly rent is the 3rd cheapest in the UK and the cheapest in the North West according to Save the Student (2023).

    Once our Admissions Team have confirmed your place, you can apply for a place in our halls of residence. We have accommodation available at all our campuses.

    Visit our accommodation page to start researching the accommodation we offer. Here you will also find information about fees and how to apply.

    Our friendly Accommodation Team are also on hand to answer any questions you may have. Email the team or call +44 (0)1772 892529.

  4. Many of our students live at home and commute to university for their studies. Our campuses have great transport links. This makes getting to campus and getting around convenient, accessible, and safe.

    There's a range of travel options for you to choose from. From walking and cycling to public transport. There are lots of discounts on travel for students too.

    If you're a local student thinking about travelling to uni, our commuter students page has all the information you need to help you decide.

  5. If you have already applied for student finance, you’ll need to amend your existing application with the university/course details. If you've yet to apply for a student loan, you should do so quickly, as it’s not guaranteed that the money will be in your account when you start. You can still apply for scholarships and bursaries that you might be eligible for to help with living costs.

    Make your money go further
    Explore budgeting tips and tools to manage your finances on our cost of living hub. You will also find information on part-time jobs, money-saving hacks and discounts.

  6. Make friends for life, explore your potential and discover new passions. Find out what to expect from your student experience and why you'll love living in the North West.

    Get a feel for student life on campus and in the city. From sports clubs and societies to student pubs and shopping, there's something for everyone.

  7. Support before you arrive
    Our mental health support was ranked 3rd in the UK in the University Mental Health Table (HUMEN, 2022). Our outstanding Support Team will be with you every step of the way. You’ll be supported from the moment you accept your place, with online sessions from 18 August onwards to help you get ready for university.

    Get to know your classmates
    You can talk to your future classmates in your course Facebook group and get ready for Welcome Week and your induction.

Hear from our students

Applying for Student Finance [during Clearing] was quite a daunting prospect... The Finance Team at the University were such a huge help to me. I’ll always remember a lovely lady helping me with a few issues I had and liaising directly with Student Finance England on my behalf.
