Sport Coaching

You'll learn about the sports coaching industry through hands on experience and focused reflection. You will increase your knowledge, develop skills, and clarify values to support you in coaching others. You'll also connect theories and knowledge learned in workshops to real-world sports coaching and educational environments.

The aim of the module is to develop the professional characteristics and requirements for academic study. We will develop your critical thinking skills, and introduce the tenets of research that will guide and challenge future practice.

The module aims to introduce key concepts of skill acquisition in sport coaching and its associated professions. You'll engage with both well-established and modern approaches to skill acquisition in the development of professionals. You'll also develop the knowledge needed for you to engage in your own decision making as a professional.

This module will enable you to identify and understand which pillars of performance are required for the development of an individual participating in sport.

You'll develop your ability to observe and analyse the performance of an individual. You'll also learn to deliver a planned intervention to develop the individual.

The module has two key aims.

Firstly, to enable you to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the coaching process and the many elements that contribute to effective and safe coaching practice.

Secondly, the module explores what ‘effective’ coaching practice could look like across a range of coaching contexts.

The ultimate aim of the module is to develop your professional judgement and decision-making skills.

The module aims to extend your knowledge of the skill acquisition process in sport and coaching. The module will have an increasing focus on analysing the appropriateness of contemporary models of skill acquisition within a range of contexts whilst also exploring professionals’ own philosophies and beliefs about learning.

On this module you'll explore several of the current and most pressing issues which may impact upon them as professionals. The module not only introduces these but encourages you to understand the real-world impact sand outcomes of key issues you'll face as a professional.

The module aims to develop your personal performance in relation to the development and management of sport-related programmes. You'll reflect on your performance and co-create your ongoing development plans alongside industry experts.

On this module you'll learn the biological, psychological, and sociological factors that impact development in sport.

The module will also examine the performance pathways that help develop performers to their full potential. You'll also create support mechanisms that will aid in the development of performers.

On this module you'll develop your coaching competencies, confidence and understanding of self. You'll experiment within the coaching process and develop an ongoing and collaborative reflective process.

The module aims to provide you with an insight into the use of sport performance analysis in an applied setting. You'll learn how to use key technologies and software whilst on placement to support the coaching process.

This module will equip you with broader knowledge of the sport coaching landscape. You'll also cover the key political drivers for sport within the participation context.

This module helps you become a better critical thinker and reflective practitioner. It encourages you to question why you do what you do in your coaching. You'll gain confidence in your own views and learn to examine the broader factors that influence your coaching. The goal is to help you become a coach who understands the reasons behind your coaching choices. You'll make considerations for who you're coaching, what you're doing, and how and when you deliver it.

This module will help you become an independent learner who is able to plan, carry out, and complete a project on a topic of personal interest in the sports sector. You'll complete a research project that involves collecting, analyzing, and presenting your own data.

This module helps you critically reflect on your performance in developing and managing real-life sports programs.

You'll communicate your growth in areas like skills, confidence, experimentation, and collaboration. This module will help guide you in creating and following your own action plan using a variety of transferable and problem-solving skills in real-life sports settings.

This module aims to help you understand the factors that affect talent development on a larger scale.

You'll critically explore how teams help athletes reach their potential and examine external factors that influence performance. You'll also learn how to support athletes both during and after their sports careers.

This module helps you develop a specific area of expertise related to your future career in sports. It gives you the time and opportunity to study your chosen sport and create models around it, preparing you for future employment.

Develop your understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) in relation to physical education and sport. You'll critique issues related to SEND in both mainstream and special school settings. You'll explore a range of learning and physical disabilities, so you can understand how they may impact physcial education for both the teacher and child. You'll also analyse current research and contemporary issues in this area.

On this module you'll apply and evaluate your knowledge and skills in delivering sports performance analysis during a placement. You'll deepen your understanding of key and modern approaches to performance analysis by carrying out an independent project.

This module shows you the differences in sports participants and how they can impact the creation of suitable coaching environments and practices. You'll learn to understand participants' needs and the what, how, and why of coaching them. Since each group is unique, you'll take the lead in your own coaching development, with support from the module staff.
