Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

You will get a foundation for understanding counselling. Given the complexities of 'counselling & psychotherapy' as concepts, a multidisciplinary approach is taken where you are introduced to key elements of the social sciences, drawing specifically on sociology, psychology, politics and philosophy. 

It is recognised that for many learners entering HE study and within psychological wellbeing training this will be the first time they have studied at such an academic level. You will gain the necessary transferable skills required to enable you to be successful throughout the course and future employment.

You'll be introduced to a range of mental health issues associated with counselling and psychotherapy. You'll explore and compare biological and psycho-social approaches to mental health. You will analyse the impact of conflict, culture, life-course, and gender on mental health, Counselling and Psychotherapy.

You will be provided with the enhancement of your understanding of the wider models of communication and how these may be different dependent on the role and purpose of practice. You'll be introduced to the core conditions considered the foundations to all therapeutic endeavours. You will practice counselling skills and learning to structure a helping session. 

In this module you will investigate the development of counselling and psychotherapy. You will learn behavioural approaches to counselling and psychotherapy. This module explores the theory and practice of counselling and psychotherapy and many types of controversies in the field.

This module aims to develop your knowledge, skills and competencies with regard to research methods in counselling and psychotherapy. Data collection and data analysis methods for quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research will be explored, and you'll explore strengths and weaknesses in each approach. 

This module provides the opportunity for you to develop an understanding of how neuroscience can inform the counselling arena. As our psychology is rooted in our biology, this module will inform you how to integrate innovative knowledge to normalise maladaptive emotions and behaviour.

The module aims to provide you with a broad appreciation of public health and behaviour change interventions and their purpose in health care settings. You'll have the opportunity to consider thought-provoking concepts based on the nature and scope of determinants of health, and the effects of these on their health behaviours and beliefs.

This module will develop your intermediate counselling skills through participation in experimental learning situations and the extensive practice of counselling skills based on the Rogerian person-centred approach.

An introduction to the concept of social prescribing. Considering personalised care and its underpinning principles, building on models of public health and behaviour change. You'll explore the role of Social Prescribing for people, communities and for the health and social care system.

The module aims to provide you with a broad understanding of and experience in delivering psychological wellbeing strategies and interventions. You will be introduced to theory around psychological wellbeing, positive psychology, cognitive behavioural therapy and neuroscience. You will develop skills in the assessment of mental health and psychological wellbeing needs with the use of evidence-based assessment tools and psychometric tests.

This module draws together academic skills developed by you in you final year of undergraduate study.

Gain relevant industry experience to consolidate your learning from your academic studies to develop practice competence in accordance with Professional Body requirements. This will enhance your early career development.

In this module, you will learn the service culture and structure policies within primary care and mental health services.

You'll have the opportunity to critically reflect on the context within which you work. A key focus will be on the application of theories and models and skills for contemporary practice which will equip you to function as a clinically effective facilitator of simple low intensity mental health management techniques for people with common mental health problems.

Equip yourself with an understanding of the incidence, prevalence and presentation of common mental health problems and evidence-based treatment choices. You'll develop competence of the core 'common factors' competencies of active listening, engagement, alliance building, patient-centred information gathering, information given and shared decision making.

In this module you will examine focused brief therapy. By the end of this module you will be able to use a range of solution focused interventions.
