What you'll do

You’ll get the opportunity to undertake work experience based on your interests, ambitions and career goals.
You’ll practise for a career in tourism, hospitality and event management or a related occupation by developing professional and transferable skills. The four forms of industrial practice are: a period of work placement within industry, the opportunity to mentor/shadow key personnel, contribution to a specific consultancy initiative, or involvement within an active project management scheme.
You’ll gain knowledge and understanding of the subject of tourism, hospitality and events and be able to evaluate contemporary issues in tourism, hospitality and events and related areas in the light of this knowledge and your work experience.

Following the pandemic, we have found that some courses benefit from a blended learning and teaching approach. Therefore, the majority of your teaching will be face-to-face on campus aside from a small amount of online teaching where we have learnt it works best.

The learning environment is organised to ensure that key concepts, theories, and where appropriate, practices relevant to management in the tourism and hospitality industry form a central role in teaching and learning.

Throughout the programme you’ll engage in a range of learning activities including lectures, seminars, THE (Tourism, Hospitality, Events) management-related projects, presentations, group work and many more.

Assessment on each of the module(s) is designed to maximise your learning in relation to subject-specific knowledge and personal ability to use problem-solving skills within a real working environment. Additional inter-personal skills include communication, teamwork and active learning shared with others. Assessment types include reports, essays, oral and multi-media presentations, debates and a Management Consultancy Project.

Academic knowledge is acquired through a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops, presentations, simulation exercises and guest speakers. Directed reading and self-study will enhance both knowledge and understanding. Vocational teaching and learning is disseminated through an accrued time period of individual exposure, involvement and contribution to a real-world vocational environment.

The ability to communicate and converse well in English is essential within Internships. The programme is designed for graduates seeking vocational exposure into the tourism, hospitality and event industry and for industry employees who seek academic advancement upon which to further their career. You’ll be expected to secure your own preferred Internship with a suitable employer with the support and guidance of the School. For this reason, prospective students with access and opportunity to secure placement within the sector are particularly welcome.
