We have been transforming lives since 1828 and has always been committed to access and widening participation. To this day we pride ourselves on being an open and accessible institution for people from all backgrounds.

Strategies, policies and reports
The University of Central Lancashire is committed to delivering a welcoming and inclusive culture which promotes equality and values diversity within our community. We will provide an inclusive working, learning and social environment in which the rights and dignity of all our colleagues and students are respected, and where they can feel safe, valued and supported.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2016-20 demonstrates how we will meet our legal commitments and deliver our equality, diversity and inclusion objectives. Attracting a diverse staff and student community is essential to our continuing success and we commit to a strategy that contributes to values and action that benefit us all.
Our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy shows our commitment to delivering a welcoming and inclusive culture which promotes inclusion, tackles inequalities and values diversity.
We are required to publish equality information annually. Our annual equality reports detail the progress of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, objectives and action plan.
We also gather and report on a range of data to help us monitor the effects of policies, practices and activities on staff and students from all equality groups. This helps us identify and develop evidenced-based actions to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in every aspect of university life.
The Equality Act 2010 places a general duty upon public bodies to eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation, advance equality of opportunity between people from different groups and foster good relations between people from different groups
We are expected to demonstrate our performance under the public sector equality duty in the following ways:
- Information to demonstrate our compliance with the equality duty, at least annually.
- One or more specific and measurable equality objectives.
- That the above information is in a manner that is reasonably accessible to the public.
Equality colleague networks
We support an array of colleague groups and networks with the aim to promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion within their specific areas of expertise. They provide support, signposting, networking opportunities and increase colleague awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion activities.
