Runshaw College is recognised as England’s number one college as well as a centre of educational excellence. Runshaw has been an Ofsted “outstanding” college for over 25 years and has two sites: Sixth Form at the Leyland Campus and Adult Education & Apprenticeships at the Euxton Lane Campus.
Runshaw College began life in 1974 catering solely for school leavers from two local high schools. It has now grown to welcome around 5000 students each year at its Sixth Form College in the beautiful woodland campus in Leyland, from towns throughout the North West.
Runshaw College’s second campus at Euxton Lane, near Chorley, has provided thousands of students with Adult Education, from basic skills to professional courses and university courses for over 20 years, in addition to securing apprenticeships for those in the local community and beyond.
The 1990s saw the college expand rapidly, as it undertook an extensive building programme as its reputation for high calibre teaching and strong exam results spread beyond the borders of South Ribble and Chorley. It was during this phase, under the nationally recognised leadership of Bernard O’Connell, who was later knighted for his services to education and to the college, that the college started to recruit in large numbers from surrounding towns of Blackburn, Wigan and Preston.
Runshaw Adult College is a well-known landmark, proudly standing on the former Royal Ordnance Factory site near Chorley and an important part of the local community located right next to Buckshaw Village, one of the largest urban developments in the North West. Offering a wide range of courses for adult learners, from professional courses to university courses and courses to boost skills and fulfil career ambitions; there are also the hugely popular Access to Higher Education courses to help those looking to access a degree. Runshaw College also hosts events in the many impressive training suites and conference rooms offering venue hire for local and regional businesses.
Today Runshaw College has consolidated 40 years of hard work and is now acknowledged as the finest provider of Further Education in the sector, attracting students from all around the North West.
One of the most successful colleges in the UK, we are renowned nationally for our outstanding results, friendly and supportive culture and focus on learners’ needs. As Ofsted summed up: “At Runshaw, every learner really does matter... the learner experience and the quality of teaching and learning are at the heart of every aspect of the college... for many students, the exceptional support they receive has changed their lives”.
We are proud of our reputation and popularity. The successes of our students over the years have led to the college being recognised, both locally and nationally, as a centre of educational excellence.
