UCLan graduate, Samantha Davis, is a Director for Capita Property & Infrastructure Ltd, and heads the Building Surveying and Maintenance Department, which consists of Building Surveyors, Mechanical & Electrical Engineers, Facilities Managers and Energy Consultants. This means Samantha is responsible for ensuring the efficient running of the Department and that the company achieves year on year growth.
“I had been interested in buildings and how they were put together from an early age,” says Samantha, explaining why she came to study her chosen course. “I felt that a degree in Building Surveying would lead me to a career which I was passionate about.”
Thinking back to her time at UCLan, Samantha said that her one lasting memory would be working on a project in her final year which brought students together from a number of different courses. She said: “This helped to give me a real understanding of what it would be like to work in a design team and it also provided me with a real appreciation of the different roles and how they all fit together in order to deliver the final output.
“I would advise anyone thinking of a career in property to consider undertaking a building surveying degree. I have worked on projects all over the country from small scale refurbishments to multi-million pound projects. I have worked as either a member of the design team or as lead technical advisor. No two days within the property consultancy field is ever the same and provides exciting new challenges and a variety of sectors in which to work.”
