Award for Feature Writing, NCTJ - Winner

Twenty-six-year-old Megan, who is a reporter and feature writer with the News & Star in Carlisle was presented with the award by the National Council for the Training of Journalists in Glasgow. "I'm surprised and very pleased. I've had a great two years with the paper and this really tops it off," she said.

Megan joined the News & Star, part of the CN Group, in 2008 shortly after being awarded a postgraduate diploma with merit.

"Megan was a tenacious and talented young writer and she deserves every success in her career," said her former tutor Delwyn Swingewood. South African-born Megan moved to the UK in 1987 and was brought up in Stoke-on-Trent. She started writing features for Student Direct at Manchester University where she read English Language and Literature, graduating with an Upper Second. Megan was one of 13 young journalists who received excellence awards.
