    Harris Bursary Fund

“When I came to UCLan I found it hard to afford my son’s nursery costs. Balancing work, childcare and full-time study meant I started to really struggle financially. I felt like I was constantly battling with money as I fell behind with rent payments, received persistent debt letters and couldn’t afford to buy healthy food for my son. My situation put me under a lot of stress and my university work began to suffer."

“The Fund awarded me £200 in food vouchers which I put towards my weekly shopping. I was able to use the money saved towards childcare costs and other essential bills. I was also awarded a computer and printer which meant I could complete assignments at home, saving me travel and childcare costs.

“Once I graduate I hope to have a long career as a nurse, something I have always wanted to do. In achieving this I would be able to provide my son with a better life."

Yasmin’s advice

“I would encourage any students who are struggling to finish their course because of financial reasons to apply to the Harris Bursary Fund. They are fantastic and provided me with genuine support – making me feel like I wasn’t alone.”

Yasmin’s thank you

“I would like to thank everyone gives up their time to fundraise for the Harris Bursary Fund because without your support I would have been forced to give up my studies. It’s a great feeling knowing that people really do care.”
