Life at the University
We strive to ensure that all employees feel valued and important members of the wider University community. Our employees play a crucial role in allowing the University to fulfil its goals.
An inclusive campus community
We are proud of our diverse, inclusive, and cohesive campus community. We are passionate about breaking down barriers and committed to providing an inclusive environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and that they belong.
Our Staff Spotlight champions the stories of our employees here at UCLan. From world-leading academic research excellence to breaking down barriers in access to Higher Education.
Our values reflect who we are as a university and what we stand for. They define the things that are most important to us and nurture a sense of shared purpose.
They reflect our ambitious nature, inspire us to constantly improve and to enrich the lives of our students, our colleagues and the communities we serve.
Achieving TogetherWe achieve our ambitions through teamwork and collaboration.
Being ProudWe take responsibility for and professional pride in the quality of our work.
Creating OpportunityWe proactively create and seize every opportunity to flourish in education, at work and for life.
Supporting AllEveryone matters. We show support, respect and compassion for our students, colleagues and communities.
Meet our colleagues
Throughout my career I have been fully supported by colleagues and managers as an openly gay woman.
UCLan has given me good work and life balance. Flexible working makes it easy for me to work around childcare arrangements. Colleagues are amazing here and we support and look after each other, it’s like a little family.
No matter what your race, gender, age, religion, disability or colour is, you are always welcomed, supported, and empowered here at UCLan.
The University has a masjid that enables Muslim staff and students to pray in, which is really important to me. UCLan is a great environment to work in, everyone here is so friendly.
“I am grateful to be part of such a diverse and inclusive community that values and celebrates the differences among its members. I have made friends for life here and look forward to many more years of working in this exceptional environment.”
I am an ‘openly gay man’ and staff member of the LGBTQ+ Equality and Diversity forum. I feel UCLan should empower, embrace and treat everyone equally in all ‘communities’ and I am proud to be a part of this forum group, supporting staff and students alike.
Admitting you have a disability isn’t always easy, so it is pleasing to see that UCLan formally commits to embracing differences and promoting an inclusive culture though the ‘Belonging at UCLan’ strategy. I would encourage colleagues to disclose their disability and to engage in the support that is available to them.
