Volunteering Celebration Event 2024

Every year, CVCL recognises the achievements of UCLan students and community volunteers and leaders from across Lancashire as part of an annual celebration event. As a university we want to take time every year to thank volunteers for the skills, commitment and thousands of volunteer hours given.

Nominations are now open

Student Volunteer Week 2024 a massive success

For this years' Student Volunteer week, we delivered our Global Leadership Development Programme to a cohort of UCLan students and sanctuary seekers.  Read on to find out more.

Global Leadership Development Programme

The Global Leadership Development Programme is a three-day learning opportunity that empowers participants to make positive changes in their lives and in wider society. The programme is peer-led with UCLan students being supported by CVCL to facilitate culturally appropriate activities. These activities support participants to develop creativity, collaboration, communication and confidence. This means that the programme has significant benefits for the wellbeing of its participants, contributing to reduced feelings of social isolation, increased levels of personal resilience and the development of important life skills.

"I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for enrolling me in the Global Leadership Development Programme. The programme was incredibly beneficial, and I gained valuable skills that will undoubtedly contribute to my growth. Thank you for providing this opportunity. I truly appreciate it."

Sanctuary seeker from Chorley

During Student Volunteer Week in February 2024, the programme was delivered to a cohort of 30 UCLan students and sanctuary seekers. Needless to say, the programme was a huge success with 100% of participants feeding back that they had developed new skills as a consequence of participating in the programme. Communication, team work and public speaking were just some of the key skills that participants developed.

In addition to this, participant feedback suggested that:

  1. The average rating for participant confidence post programme completion was 4.33 out of 5
  2. The average rating for participant wellbeing post programme completion was 4.53 out of 5
  3. 80% of participants developed new friendships
  4. 86% of participants indicated that they would recommend the programme to other people

The CVCL team will be delivering the Global Leadership Development Programme again during Refugee Week in June 2024. CVCL will be welcoming up to 50 sanctuary seekers onto our Preston Campus. If you would like to find out more about the programme or how to refer individuals, then please email the CVCL team.

"It is going to be difficult to return back to day-to-day normal everyday routines having experienced the rollercoaster of emotions during the last three days. I can say for certain that I'm going to miss it - in fact I've realised I already am whilst writing this message. I'd love to go back-in-time and experience the three days all over again. The memories created during this programme will stay with me for a long time to come. Thank you ever so much."
