Nurul shares her experience and the benefits of studying at UCLan

Originally from Malaysia, Nurul has quickly settled into life in the UK after joining the University in September 2022.

"The tutors and professors are very experienced in their field and helpful in guiding students and preparing them for assessments. I am confident that I have made the right decision to pursue my MBA at UCLan.

"I earned my bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management from a local university in Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi MARA) and my Level 7 Certificate in Human Resources from CIPD, UK. In the UK, I feel that there is more emphasis on independent learning.

"I am impressed with the facilities provided by UCLan, especially the multi faith prayer facility (Oasis Centre) and the location of campus makes it easy for me to get around. The UCLan library has wonderful staff and reliable online systems.

"When applying, UCLan stood out in the selection process as the MBA programme is tailored towards entrepreneurial, rather than corporate aspects."

Nurul Shah, MBA with Professional Placement

"The Oasis Centre is clean, comfortable and has fantastic infrastructure. You will enjoy your study here and there are plenty of opportunities to make friends with students from around the world.

"Preston is a great city. I can easily walk to my home, the city centre and to my lectures. The city is very diverse and there are plenty of halal grocery shops and takeaways too. It is a very well-connected city and I have been to Manchester, Liverpool, London and Edinburgh for holidays on public transport. Preston is a safe place. I have had no bad experiences, even walking home late after revision/self-study sessions in the library.

"Since this is my first time staying in the UK, I would say the weather is different. I am still learning to adjust to the change of weather as in Malaysia, it is mostly hot all year-round. If I don’t have any lectures/classes, I like to do my own revision and during weekends. I like to spend time with my children, enjoying parks, strolling through town, and enjoying plenty of good food options. I don’t have any problems making friends here, even my neighbour at my apartment in Preston is friendly."
