Next steps for international offer holders

The university is registered as a sponsor under the UK immigration system known as the Points-Based System. We will provide you with a CAS number, once you have met any academic conditions and paid the relevant tuition fee deposit. Providing evidence of any agreed sponsorship arrangements will be accepted also.

You will need a CAS to be able to submit your Student visa application.

Once you have paid your tuition fee deposit, we would advise that no extra tuition fee deposit payment should be submitted until your visa has been secured. Please note that the tuition fee deposit deadline for the September 2022 intake is 31 July 2022, unless otherwise stated on your offer letter.

Please note that all fees and costs associated with your visa application are expenses you will incur in addition to your tuition and accommodation fees.

If you are coming to the UK to study for a period of more than six months there are further extra expenses. This will include the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) which is currently charged at £470 per year. When you apply for your visa you will need to ensure you are able to show you have enough money in your bank account. This is to cover your living expenses (£1023 per month up to a maximum of 9 months) and the balance of your tuition fees.

The University has a safeguarding responsibility toward all students and will treat all students in the same way. All students will need to have the necessary skills to study and live independently and assume an adult level of responsibility. Yet, the University acknowledges that anyone living in England who is under the age of 18 is legally defined as a child.

The University will not act in “loco parentis”. This means that the University will not act in a parental capacity toward students who are under the age of 18. If your parents/guardians remain overseas when you come to study, we will ask them to provide details of a guardian based in the UK. This is the person we will contact in an emergency on your behalf should the need ever arise. The nominated UK guardian should be someone who is in or near to the University and who can act in loco parentis. The guardian must be a British national or holder of a UK Biometric Residence Permit.

If you will be under the age of 18 when your course is due to begin, we will contact you after you have been issued with an offer to secure the completion of all relevant documentation.

You will be required to get a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance if your course involves working with vulnerable groups of individuals.

This information will be included within your offer letter if this requirement applies to your course. If your DBS check is unsatisfactory, your offer of a place for that course may be withdrawn.

If you are an international student travelling from overseas, you should secure a letter from the local police in your home country. The UK DBS check process has no way to access information about any crimes committed overseas. Every country has its own system for criminal records checking. The terminology for the certificates may differ. Your country may refer to the process as Certificates of Good Character, rather than mentioning criminal charges which would suffice for this purpose.

You should secure this evidence through the police in your home country and get a certificate either stating your current criminal record or giving an opinion on character and trustworthiness. More information about the process can be found on the Government's website.

The rules about who pays ‘home’ fees for higher education courses in England are set by the Government’s Department for Education.

The regulations identify all the different ‘categories’ of students who can insist on paying the ‘home’ rate of fee.

If you meet all the criteria required by any one category, including any residence requirements, we will charge you the ‘home’ fee rate. We will complete an assessment of your fee status, as required, as part of our standard application assessment process.

If you believe your fee status has been categorised incorrectly, please do not hesitate to contact the International Admissions team to enable a detailed assessment to be made. Please note that the University fee assessment process is carried out independently of your application to study at it. UKCISA guidelines are considered in full when an assessment is made. A decision on your fee status is not an admission decision on your application, which will be determined separately from your fee status.

If you have received an offer for a course that has a clinical setting, where work-based learning or a placement form part of your study, you are likely to be asked to provide additional evidence in support of your application in addition to any academic and financial conditions.

The additional evidence may include a DBS Check, detailed above, and/or an Occupational Health Check. We will provide you with all the information you need at each step of your journey to enable you to provide any additional evidence requested.

Please note that the UK government consultation on whether there was a requirement to be vaccinated against Covid 19 concluded the following; ‘it is no longer proportionate to require vaccination as a condition of deployment through statute in health, care homes or other social care settings.’ The university is following UK government advice and evidence of vaccination status will not be a condition of your offer.
