International Business Communication (IBC)

This module will expand your confidence in an international business environment. You will develop your reading, writing, listening and speaking in English, and you'll progress an awareness of key concepts and issues in business management.

This module aims to enable you to understand the critical role of marketing in organisations and society and the core concepts, principles, and strategies of marketing.

Our module will develop your communication and understanding of the English language to aid your discussion of basic business topics. You will be provided with an underpinning knowledge of the main themes and concepts within business and management.

Is English a second or foreign language for you? Our module will focus on language in relation to academic study, and the skills for success in Higher Education. Topics will include listening, reading and note-taking skills, the planning and completion of written assignments (such as essays and reports) and the delivery of spoken presentations.

On this module you'll develop your business-related knowledge and skills by being involved in increasingly complex projects.

Learn about business cultures of the English-speaking world and develop your understanding of the role of English as a major global language for business. You'll examine the influence of the English-speaking world on your own language and society.

You will develop communication skills necessary to operate in multi-cultural business and educational environments. The module develops awareness of some key issues in contemporary international business.

This module will give you the opportunity to develop your language skills in an authentic English-speaking environment and culture, in a business context. You'll develop your teamwork, organisation and business skills to enhance future career prospects. You'll also work on a business-related project within the local community.

You will be introduced to processes involved in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship as well as gain practical experience working in teams on a simulated business project. You'll develop key teamwork, business, and communication skills within a business context.

This module aims for you to confidently talk about numbers accurately in English. You will be able to have a basic understanding of accounting and talk about different types of banking. You will explore the basic concepts and terms in company finance, and will have the opportunity to examine the management of foreign exchange risk.

In this module you will explore marketing and advertising in an international environment. You will begin to understand more marketing terms, this will benefit you when you come to researching in marketing.

This module aims to develop your English language knowledge and communication skills for management practice and business research.

This module aims to prepare you for immersion in a foreign culture. You will be provided with an introduction to the nature of culture and cultural identity, and an analysis of problems of intercultural adjustment.

Further develop your competence in your use of the English language and develop your use of academic English in the context of your subject area. You'll develop strategies for answering essay questions as well as planning and completing assignments. You'll also improve your reflective skills and other strategies for independent learning.

On this module you'll learn how to communicate and interact with diverse groups. You will also study and understand intercultural and professional communication theories, research, and practice.

On this module you'll develop awareness of the need for internationalisation of business in contemporary competitive environments and the globalised world. You'll analyse and evaluate international business strategies and international trade patterns

You will also build an understanding of the role of the international manager and the skills required to manage and communicate in the international marketplace.

This module consolidates and enhances what is learned elsewhere on the programme, allowing you both to further develop your linguistic, communication and general analytical skills developed. At the same time, you will draw on and extend your understanding of international business and management by researching a particular area in depth.

In this module you will conduct independent research in area of interest relevant to your career aspirations.

On this module you will complete a lengthy piece of translation (from a modern language into English). The module will enable you to contend with challenges of translation against the background of a detailed study of a specialised subject.

In this module, you will develop reading skills in Chinese to read a large number of Chinese words. You will gain a level of competence in mediation skills such as translation and summary. You will also study modern Chinese culture and society through the medium of primary sources in Chinese.

By the end of this module, you'll have developed communications skills in International English for speakers of English as a second or additional language. Such development of skills is fostered through input and practice at upper intermediate to advanced levels of competence.

This module will provide you with a grounding in classic and current theories relating to cultural issues in tourism.

The module also aims to:

• Enhance your awareness of the importance of sustainable tourism.

On this module you'll compare and contrast the different styles of advertising in an international context with reference to such considerations as: cultural attitudes, laws, language, celebrities and more. You'll learn to use appropriate Marketing and Business terminology flexibly and effectively. The module aims to enhance your teamwork, research, and analytical skills

On this module you'll develop a critical understanding of Human Resource Management concepts, frameworks and models. You'll develop the ability to utilise Human Resource Management models and frameworks as tools of analysis of contemporary human resource issues.

This module greatly expands your ability to communicate in a wide range of interactive and formal situations. Topics and accompanying materials will be carefully selected to increase your understanding of contemporary Japanese society and working environment, with content varying year-on-year to reflect the most up-to-date situations.

Our module will further consolidate and develop your language skills acquired in your previous years of your academic study. You will get the opportunity to communicate appropriately and flexibly in various situations and different levels of formality and politeness.
