Are you interested in developing your professional communication skills? As well as your intercultural competence, business and management knowledge. Our International Business Communication direct entry Year 3 degree is for you.

Years 1-3 of our International Business Communication course are only available at our partner SUIBE, located in China. At the Preston Campus, we offer Year 3 as a top-up.

You’ll gain an understanding of how to communicate and interact with diverse groups. Preparing you to meet the challenges of the rapidly changing global landscape.

The course is global in its outlook and differs from the more traditional business degree. We focus on equipping primarily international students with transferable skills, knowledge and understanding. Helping you to succeed in a world of work that is rapidly changing and diverse.

The Year 3 direct entry programme is underpinned by three core themes:

Language appropriacy for a variety of professional contexts
Intercultural awareness and competence
Business and management cognizance for the global world of work

What you'll do

Develop a specialist toolkit of communication competencies. From Intercultural Communication for Professional Purposes, Research Methods for Applied International Business Communication to Marketing and Advertising Communication.
Access industry-standard language learning resources at our Worldwise Learning Centre. Including satellite TV, translation suites, and self-study audio and video materials. As well as software such as Rosetta Stone.
You’ll regularly get to hear from expert guest speakers from across the Globe. Offering you insights into the importance of Business Communication internationally.

Studying this course in China

At our Preston campus in the UK, we only offer this course as a top up, allowing students to study Year 3 only. The full course is run in partnership with the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE). You are able to study years 1, 2 and 3 of this programme at SUIBE, China.

Our partnership with Shanghai University of International Business and Economics (SUIBE) is a long-standing one, beginning over 20 years ago. SUIBE was first established as a Department of Foreign Languages for Foreign Trade. Then, in June 2013, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade secured Chinese Ministry of Education approval to become the Shanghai University of International Business and Economics.

They offer a broad range of programmes and courses in English for International Business, English Language and Literature, Journalism, Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (CTCFL), French and Japanese. SUIBE have developed their curriculum to reflect the globalised nature of business. They equip graduates with a global vision and high calibre skills in language, culture and communication.

The University’s mission is to advance the strengths of Shanghai and China in international trade and economics. SUIBE is actively engaged in high-level research in fields related to international trade through various research institutes.#

This course is only open to non-native speakers of English. Throughout this course you’ll attend a mixture of lectures, seminars , tutorials and practical workshops as well as carrying out independent study.

In Year 1 we’ll introduce you to the basic principles of business, marketing and communication.

In Year 2 you’ll focus on enhancing your English language skills so that you’ll be able to excel in an international, intercultural business environment. You’ll also learn about business theory and management practice, including how to produce a business plan.

Year 3 focuses on the development of higher-level communication skills. You can also choose from a range of option modules in specialist topics.

We’ll assess your progress through a combination of business simulations, case studies, essays, presentations, projects and exams.
