Acting student on life as an international student at UCLan

Abby joined the university in September 2022 as part of our BA Acting programme. She has quickly adapted to international student life and has thoroughly enjoyed her experience on the programme and living in Preston.

"I chose to study at UCLan because the acting course has an excellent reputation. The most enjoyable part of the course was making new friends and learning from the tutors who are extremely helpful and offer fantastic support to everyone. The course offers a good variety of modules, which allows me to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

"My first impression of UCLan was that it is a big university with spacious buildings. The library has a wealth of resources, and an organised study area for students who want some quiet time to do their work. Personally, I like to use the Media Factory to practice and rehearse for my assignments. It is easy to book, and there is plenty of space for everyone.

"Preston is a nice and safe place to study and live in. It is close to the city centre and a great place to hang out with my friends during the weekend. Additionally, the university accommodation has excellent living conditions and maintenance are always on hand to fix any issues. Preston also has good transportation links to different places in England such as Manchester and Liverpool and my friends and I have been on plenty of daytrips.

"The weather is very versatile, I am originally from Singapore where the conditions are always warm, but the UK climate is hotter than I expected. In conclusion, I would most definitely recommend studying at UCLan, more specifically, the undergraduate acting course to anyone who wants to pursue a successful career in the industry."
