Matt always enjoyed the nuts and bolts of business. It wasn't just one of his stronger subjects at school, but one of his strengths in his part-time job, too.
It was while Matt was in his part-time job handling the books and streamlining the admin that the thought struck. There might just be a future in this!
Since then, he's been hard at work. Management accounting, Sage certificates, even company law. He just happened to come first in every module.
But it's not all about the course work. Matt spent a placement year at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where he did just as well applying the theory, gaining the experience and discovering a real passion for audit.
"I went on a year-long placement with PwC in Bristol - a fantastic experience which helped me move towards my ambition of working in accountancy."
While he was building up his network, he was also building up his confidence. Even some fairly serious surgery couldn't hold him back. With support from his tutors and access to classes online, he stayed right on track.
And, the hard work paid off. When Matt graduated in 2023 he secured a finance graduate role at Warburtons, the start of his accountancy journey.
With hands on experience and great placement opportunities on offer, an accounting degree at UCLan adds up to a fantastic future career.
