Dr Ailsa Cormack
Ailsa is Co-Lead for our Primary Care Curriculum for the MBBS programme and an experienced GP. Ailsa works with colleagues across the MBBS course. They develop and deliver teaching that promotes the clinical knowledge, skills and understanding of the holistic generalist approach.
As Co-Lead for our Primary Care curriculum and lead for the Year 3 General Practice Module, Ailsa has used her knowledge and experience of the generalist principles of primary care to co-ordinate, develop and help deliver expert half day teaching and post session resources focussed on common clinical conditions seen in primary care. Ailsa works in collaboration with Phase 2 colleagues to ensure that the year 3 GP Module teaches knowledge and skills required to support students on their Primary Care placements. Ailsa also collaborates with colleagues in Phase 1 to ensure that development of the primary care curriculum builds on the student learning experience as they move through each year of study.
Ailsa qualified as a GP in 1991 and her professional journey has included GP partner roles in West Yorkshire and then East Lancashire, leadership roles and her educator role as a trainer to GP speciality trainees.
Ailsa has been interested and involved in education for many years and gained her Postgraduate Certificate of GP Medical Education from the University of Manchester in 2008.
Whilst working as a GP Partner and Trainer in East Lancashire, Ailsa joined us in 2017 as a member of the campus teaching team and GP tutor in the placements team. As part of this role, Ailsa recruited a significant number of GP practices across Pennine Lancs to offer high-quality primary care placements to our students. In April 2021, Ailsa resigned from her partnership and took up her role as Co-Lead for our Primary Care Curriculum whilst also continuing with her clinical work now as a locum GP.
