UCLan’s Worldwise Learning Centre at the School of Language and Global Studies is dedicated to offering support, training and professional development opportunities to UCLan students, members of staff, the public and the business community of England’s North West.
We welcome all those aspiring to enhance their cross-cultural awareness and intercultural or linguistic communication skills for the advancement of academic studies, or professional careers in multicultural and multilingual settings.
Located on the first floor of Adelphi Building, the Centre offers extensive resources relating to world languages, cultures and intercultural communication, including reference books, DVDs, dictionaries, specific country files and other materials, available both in print and electronically.
It also provides a space in which to meet and make friends with speakers of different languages in a friendly environment.
The Centre also provides access to exciting language learning technologies and advanced facilities for digital conferencing, simultaneous interpreting, digital communication and international TV alongside comfortable group and private study areas.
Users can hire items such as digital recorders, video cameras, projectors and audio headsets from our comprehensive range of audio visual equipment.
Centre-led activities to support those with an interest in world languages and cultures include culture and language celebration events, shows and exhibitions, events for local schools and guest talks.
Short-term internships and work experience placements are regularly offered by the Centre and provide an excellent opportunity for students to get real work experience, develop customer service and administrative skills and to work in a truly international team.

The Worldwise LinGO travel award is a bursary available to anyone registered on a UCLan language course (including the Certificate in Applied Languages and the Worldwise Language Advantage Programme). 20 scholarships are offered each year for travelling to countries outside the UK on an intensive language practice or study course. Successful applicants will receive up to £500 and the Worldwise Team will help them to plan their trips in order to get the most positive experience! All UK, EU and international students may apply.
Each year UCLan’s International Office awards a travel bursary to a number of UK students wishing to spend time abroad during their studies.
The Worldwise Learning Centre can assist bursary recipients with language and cultural training, survival tips and information on the country of destination to help you get the most from your visit.
