Our BSc Professional Practice (post-reg) is for qualified health and social care practitioners who’d like to develop their career within practice.

Entry requirements

We will consider your educational achievements, predicted grades, work experience and personal statement. If you don't meet the grades for your chosen course, we will consider you for other programmes.

We know that many factors can influence the grades you achieve in school or college. If your life experience has affected your academic studies, we can take this into account. Use the UCAS Points Calculator below to check whether you are eligible.

You must work at least 18 hours per week in practice.

Informal enquiries are welcomed. Your application will be considered on its merits and in the light of the nature and scope of the programme. You may be invited for an informal discussion before being offered a place. This is to ensure you understand the nature of the programme, and its demands, and to plan your modular route leading to the identified award. Identification of financial support will be noted.

APEL is not available for entry to the final year of honours degrees, including top-up degrees. Exceptions, of up to a maximum of 20 credits, will only be considered in the case of recognised awards within a national/regional framework.

  • Have a current professional registration with a relevant professional/statutory body, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Council or Health Care Professions Council
  • Please note that for individual modules you may be required to be working in clinical practice for at least 18 hours a week
  • Hold 120 credits or equivalent at level 5 study: this should preferably be via a Diploma Higher Education course but for those students with no prior academic credit / qualifications, an AP(E)L Portfolio route is available in order for students to demonstrate the ability to study and achieve level 5 outcomes and show equivalence to Dip HE (please note that this takes time, an APL claim should be started at least 9 months prior to the start of the academic year in September)
  • Have the ability to be self-funding or have the commitment of their employer to support course fees
  • Have their managers support for the course (where appropriate)
  • Your application will be considered on its merits and in the light of the nature and scope of the programme. You may be invited for an informal discussion before being offered a place. The purpose of this discussion is first to ensure that you understand the nature of the programme and its demands and to plan your modular route leading to the identified award. Identification of financial support will be noted.

This course will involve you working with vulnerable groups of individuals, this may include children. In order to ensure that the University offers places on their programmes to suitable candidates you will be required to obtain a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service clearance (formerly termed CRB).
