Registered mental health nurse with 15 years’ experience working with children and young people presenting with mental health difficulties. Course leader for the Graduate Diploma and Degree in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Teaching responsibilities include both pre-registration nursing courses and post-registration courses.
Sharon qualified as a mental health nurse in 1997 and has worked in a range of mental health services including Tier two and three child and adolescent mental health services, obtained a BSC Hons Degree in mental health nursing studies in 2006. Clinical experience includes work with young people aged between 4 and 18 years of age and involves undertaking assessments and providing a range of evidence based clinical interventions such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy as required. Sharon has been involved in the child and adolescent mental health course run by the University of Central Lancashire since its start in 2005. Initially working on secondment to the university Sharon has since accepted a full time post in education and remains committed to developing the knowledge base of student nurses and those working in the area of child and adolescent mental health. Teaching responsibilities includes contributions to both pre-registration nursing courses and post registration courses which are specific to child and adolescent mental health. Recent study is in the area of personality disorders, with a specific interest in the development of these in young people, currently undertaking an MSc in personality Disorders at the University of Central Lancashire to further develop knowledge in this area.
