Kath Houston aims to inspire students (undergraduate and postgraduate), whatever their main course of study, to plan and create their future career lives, whether through traditional graduate career paths, entrepreneurial, freelance or portfolio work patterns. Her aim is to enthuse students with curiosity and proactivity so that they know what they want in terms of career and know how to make it happen.
Kath Houston is a highly motivated and enthusiastic Careers Adviser with professional and academic accreditation through a Postgraduate Diploma in Career Guidance. She is also qualified as a university teacher through a postgraduate diploma in university teaching learning and a Masters in Education. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and is qualified through the British Psychological Society in Psychometric Testing. She is also a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
As a teacher, she aims to design course content related to employability, enterprise and personal development that is engaging, relevant and linked to a particular subject area. Her course design and teaching approach is focused around innovatory use of resources, group activities and fresh interactive segments to get the attention of students, making learning fun and valuable. She is involved in course and module design to ensure that whatever subject a student studies, they are aware of their own employability quotient and confident and capable of seeking out and creating their own ideal future.
She is a published author of career management books including most recently, ‘How to Succeed at Assessment Centres’ published by Palgrave Macmillan. Her research has resulted in conference presentations and journal articles on online employability learning and researcher’s career development.
