Karen contributes to the teaching of modules in both the pre-registration and post-registration Nursing courses, including Admissions Tutor for the Trainee Nursing Associate apprenticeship.

Teaching Activities

Karen has over 20 years experience working in acute paediatrics, both medicine and surgery. She was a lecturer/practitioner for seven years working in both in clinical practice and the University, before coming to work full-time as a Senior Lecturer. She maintains her links with the clinical area as link lecturer and also holds an Honorary Contract for a local trust.

Karen is the module leader for a variety of modules (both pre-registration and post-registration), and contributes to a range of modules for mainly student and qualified children's nurses, but she also teaches on some interprofessional modules.

She contributes to the teaching of a range of clinical skills to students in the School of Nursing, particularly Basic Life Support of both Adults and Children. She has a particular interest in the use of simulation as a teaching and learning strategy to encourage the personal and professional development of students.
