As a Senior Lecturer and part of the BDS teaching team, Bev has been fundamental to the development of UCLan’s BSc (Hons) in Dental Hygiene & Dental Therapy of which she is Course Lead.

Bev is research active across a number of projects within the School.

Full Profile

Bev has worked in dentistry for over 25 years and is passionate about furthering the development of Dental Care Professionals. After gaining her Combined Diploma in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy (Distinction), Bev has since achieved a BSc (Hons) in Dental Studies (1st Class) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management. She has completed her PG Cert in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education and is currently studying for an MSc in Advanced Restorative and Periodontal Practice.

Teaching Activities and Responsibilities

Bev has been teaching DCPs since early 2000, initially as part of in-house training and then as part of accredited pre-registration and extended duties courses. She currently develops and delivers continuing professional development and extended duties courses for hygienists and therapists nationwide.

Bev started working at UCLan in 2015 and helped developed the BSc (Hons) in Dental Hygiene & Dental Therapy, leading the successful process of both University validation and provisional GDC approval.

Bev is Course Lead and Module Lead for two modules on the Hygiene and Therapy BSc programme: Oral Disease and Integrated Practice and Enhanced Clinical Practice. In addition to this, she lectures both Hygiene-Therapy students and BDS 2nd year students in Foundation Clinical Knowledge and Skills, Clinical Knowledge and Skills 1, and Health Promotion and Population Studies. This is an integrated approach to learning that is at the forefront of dental teaching enabling all members of the dental team being taught alongside each other, so that a unique understanding of roles, remits and skills is fostered.

Bev supervises dissertation students on the BSc (Hons) Dental Studies for Dental Care Professionals and is actively involved in several research projects across the School of Dentistry.
