Research Centre in Engineering

Institute for Engineering and Technology Innovation (InETI)

We aim to respond directly to significant priorities in contemporary society and to elements of the UK Industrial Strategy. In doing so, we address industrial problems by combining practical experience with education so that we can develop regional skills and abilities.

Our research

We undertake research and knowledge transfer over a wide range of topics within engineering. Combining practical experience with education in this way allows us to develop our region’s capability and capacity as well as developing the “leaders of tomorrow”.

Activities are based across our campuses in Preston and Burnley and include work in the recently completed £30m Engineering Innovation Centre which is home to many state-of-the-art facilities including equipment for 3D printing, drone technology and artificial intelligence.

We are focussed on six contemporary areas that will find possible solutions to significant priorities in contemporary society and to elements of the UK Industrial Strategy. Our role is to manage, support and stimulate strategic development and growth of engineering research and knowledge transfer, which will enable industry to address challenges at home and abroad.

These activities are focused within a range of specialist research areas
