University retains place in elite global league table
UCLan has been included in Times Higher Education World University Rankings for a third consecutive year.
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has firmly established itself at a global level after it was included in The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the third year in a row.
Central Lancashire retained its position in the 601 to 800 category of the table, which is considered to be one of the most prestigious university rankings in the world.
Once again the University scored particularly highly in relation to its international outlook, which reflects the percentages of international staff and students as well as academic papers that have been co-authored with international partners.
Other areas where the University has seen improvement are in overall teaching, which takes into consideration the number of bachelor students who go on to achieve doctorates, and in research productivity.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Mike Thomas said: “We are delighted to be included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the third consecutive year.
“To begin a new academic year on this high note is very encouraging. Although we are very much a civic university with our roots in Lancashire, this table reflects our commitment to boosting the region’s international standing as well as inspiring students to reach their academic potential and conducting high-quality research with partners around the globe.”

This prestigious ranking acts as a resource for students, parents, academics, industry leaders and governments at home and abroad.
The University’s success in the latest (THE) World University Rankings follows on from recent triumphs in the Guardian’s 2018 University Guide and the Centre for World University Rankings, where it was named amongst the top 3.7% of all worldwide universities.
