UCLan joins elite group of Northern companies
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has been announced as a Northern Powerhouse partner, underlining its commitment to supporting economic growth in the north.
The organisations taking part in the Northern Powerhouse partnership programme join a network of leaders who strongly believe in the potential to grow the northern economy and are committed to delivering this growth.
The network will focus on four key priorities: connectivity and transport; skills, science and innovation; quality of life and culture, and devolution.
UCLan is the largest university in Lancashire and already collaborates with more than a thousand businesses across the Northern Powerhouse footprint through innovation, applied research, and a pipeline of highly trained graduate talent. A civic, anchor institution within Preston, the University contributes more than £200m annually to the regional economy.
Professor Mike Thomas, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Central Lancashire, said: “It’s a great privilege for the University of Central Lancashire to work with the Government as a Northern Powerhouse Partner. The spirit of collaboration and partnership is a key cultural driver of the University. We’ve been partnering with businesses, families, and other educational providers to transform lives and drive economic innovation across our region since 1828.
“We look forward to working with the Government and other Northern Powerhouse partners to optimise the tremendous potential of the businesses and young people across the north in the coming years.”
