Former leading politician, writer and Strictly Come Dancing star Ann Widdecombe proved a big hit when she visited the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) for a charity book signing event.

Award-winning independent book retailer SilverDell of Kirkham secured an ‘Evening With Ann Widdecombe’ which was organised to tie in with the release of Ann’s autobiography ‘Strictly Ann.’

Ann gave a special talk and later took questions about her 20 year political career that included time as Shadow Health Secretary in 1998 and Shadow Home Secretary in 1999 as well as life outside of Whitehall, where she has made a number of television documentaries, published four novels and appeared in the 2010 series of Strictly Come Dancing. She was also very forthright with her opinions on the Prime Minister David Cameron and the lack of variety between the current leading political parties.

All attendees received a signed and personalised hardback copy of her new book. She followed in the footsteps of leading sports broadcaster Clare Balding and legendary Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook who also visited UCLan last year for charity book signing events organised by SilverDell.

Proceeds from the event went to the University’s Harris Bursary Fund.
