Computing graduate lands dream job in Spain after taking advantage of European educational partnership
A successful computing student from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has swapped the hills of Austria for the culture of Barcelona after landing a top job before he’s even graduated.
Wolfgang Vitzhum, who originally hails from St Johann in Tyrol, came to Preston to study for a degree in computing and is now working for software company Nuvolar Works in the famous Spanish city.
The 22-year-old only graduated from UCLan last week but has already started his new life in Spain after landing his dream job developing software for the aviation industry.
Wolfgang said: “I am currently working as a python software developer and my role involves working on a large project for an American company. The University’s computing course prepared me in a sense of being more structured and efficient while programming and of course it improved my level of English a lot which is an essential part of working abroad.”
"I feel a bit sad and joyful at the same time to be graduating. I had a really great time at UCLan but I am also looking forward to the future."
He spent a year studying at UCLan after taking advantage of a partnership the University has with his Austrian college, IT Kolleg Imst. Although he initially struggled with the language, he soon settled into living in Lancashire.
“Initially the language barrier was a bit more difficult than I imagined but those issues resolved very quickly over the course of a few weeks,” he said. “I enjoyed lots of things about being a student in Preston and would recommend it to anyone. I loved the way of living as a student, the friendly environment, the students, the staff, the Students’ Union societies and the structure of the course.”
He added: “I feel a bit sad and joyful at the same time to be graduating. I had a really great time at UCLan but I am also looking forward to the future.”
