One in Four Film Festival returns to University
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) will once again shine the spotlight on mental health awareness through its annual film festival.
Now in its 10th year, the free UCLan One in Four Film Festival is the only service user and carer-led film festival in the UK. It will run from 10 to 14 October, with the first day marking World Mental Health Day, and aims to bring mental health issues to a much wider audience.
It is organised by UCLan’s Comensus and Service Users and Carers Advisory Group with help from local community support groups, and will show a range of entertaining but informative feature films that highlight a wide range of mental health issues. A different film will be screened daily at the University’s Mitchell and Kenyon Cinema, with a matinee on the Wednesday afternoon, and each film will be followed by an audience discussion.
"Through the One in Four Film Festival we aim to open up discussions around mental health issues and educate our audiences through the stories and characters in the films."
Janette Grey, Director of Academic Development in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, said: “The official statistics tell us that one in four people experience mental health problems in the UK in any given year so this is something that can affect us all one way or another. Through the One in Four Film Festival we aim to open up discussions around mental health issues and educate our audiences through the stories and characters in the films.”
The films that will be screened are:
Monday - Love & Mercy
Tuesday - The Danish Girl
Wednesday matinee – Up
Wednesday evening - Inside Out
Thursday - Alive Inside
Friday - The Savages
Each film will be screened at 7.00pm preceded by entertainment at 6.30pm. Wednesday’s matinee will be screened at 1.00pm.
