Rachel Atkinson

UCLan welcomed the popular broadcaster to the Preston Campus

The television and radio star, who has recently released her autobiography My Animals and Other Family, spoke to the packed out audience in the Harrington Lecture Theatre. She talked about her experiences covering a wide range of sports and news events during this year, including the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games.

She also read amusing passages from her book, which included an embarrassing tale about the Queen, before taking part in a question and answer session with members of the audience.

The event was organised by Lancashire’s award-winning independent book retailer SilverDell of Kirkham.

Clare is the second big name to visit UCLan in as many weeks for special talks.

Last week UCLan’s Honorary Fellow and legendary Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook visited to coincide with the release of his latest book Unknown Pleasures – Inside Joy Division.

Proceeds from both events have gone to the University’s Harris Bursary Fund.
