Sara Baraka to present her case report to national conference

A University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) dental graduate is all smiles after being chosen to represent the North West at a national conference.

Sara Baraka, who graduated from the dentistry course last year, was awarded a prize for her advanced restoration case report and she will now present her work at the annual British Society of Advanced Dentistry (BSAD) conference.

The 26-year-old said: “I’m the first graduate from UCLan Dental School to have been awarded this prize. It’s a great honour, I’m so excited and over the moon to represent the North West at such a major event for people working within the dental industry.”

Sara has spent the last 10 months undertaking her Dental Foundation Training in Ulverston. As part of the curriculum she presented a case report involving the management and treatment of a patient requiring an advanced restoration including a crown.

"I feel blessed to have graduated from UCLan Dental School. It’s a fantastic school and the experience gained in preparation for the world of work is remarkable."

Sara, from Garstang, was up against 13 other graduate dentists from across the region. The decision was made by members of the British Society of Advanced Dentistry on the final study day held at Haydock Race Park and she will travel to Cardiff in September to present her work.

She said: “The conference includes lectures, an exhibition and a gala dinner – all which I am very much looking forward to. Many specialist dentists from all over the world will attend the conference. It will be a great opportunity to meet new people with various skills and experiences.”

She added: “I feel blessed to have graduated from UCLan Dental School. It’s a fantastic school and the experience gained in preparation for the world of work is remarkable. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all the staff at UCLan; it’s been a privilege to have their continual guidance and support.”
