Taking advantage of your free gym membership
Here on the Preston campus, students are entitled to a gym membership at the on-campus Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre all for free.
MSc DNA Profiling student Nicol-Stella talks us through her experiences using the free gym and sports facilities.
"It’s not just the state-of-the-art gym facilities that we as students have access to free of charge either – there’s classes too! There's so much to choose from including; Yoga, Spinning, Legs, Bums and Tums, Boxercise, Ab Attack, Zumba, Studio Weights and even Chinese Folk Dancing. If that’s not variety, then I don’t know what is!
Having access to the gym membership has helped my mental health and my friends too. Pre COVID-19, we used to go together to work out and de-stress for an hour between classes. It's also improved my fitness because you can go as much as you want."

"Having access to the gym membership has helped my mental health and my friends' too. It's also improved my fitness because you can go as much as you want."
"I would often go upstairs for cardio and do my own ab workout, then go to Yoga class to stretch and meditate a little! My favourite classes include Legs, Bums and Tums and sometimes a 30-minute ab attack class would be on straight after – I love that combination!
I find that when you’re in a class, it motivates you way more because the teacher encourages you. If you like to play sports there are bookable courts, perfect to hire out for a game or two with some friends!"
