Karolin talks about her progression from undergraduate to postgraduate study

Karolin found out about her undergraduate course whilst doing vocational training at ASCO Coburg in Germany. She tells us about her life as a postgraduate student having progressed from her first course.

"To any international student thinking of studying here, I would say go for it, write your application, try it as you will never get the same opportunity and you meet so many people by going to the gym for example.

"I was overwhelmed when I first arrived to study my first course in BA (Hons) English for International Corporate Communication as I’d never experienced studying before so this was my first university experience. I like Preston and I like seeing the mix of people here.

"I am now studying MA Human Resource Management and I find that UCLan helps students find their way around.

"I stayed here over the summer between my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and I really enjoyed seeing the city without all the students and meeting new people. Now because I also work as well as studying, over the weekdays I am with students but then when I come into town to work, everyone is so friendly.

"It’s nice to get to know people at other gym classes. I like to attend Zumba, boxercise and weight classes at the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre at the Preston campus. This helps me to switch my head off after a busy day at University and I can reset my energy level for upcoming tasks. It was difficult to make friends because of the pandemic but now for my master’s I see classmates once a week and then you work together on assignments.

"Also, by joining clubs and by going to the gym you can meet people, my advice is to be friendly, and open-minded. I have a part-time job in a local pub in town where I mostly work on the weekends. I enjoy working there because I have some time off from students and learning."
