Maths student shares her experience at our diverse campus

For Savda, mathematics has always been challenging yet rewarding. She loves how the subject appears in so many parts of the world, but more crucially, it's also helped her develop valuable analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to help her future career.

Savda chose to study BSc (Hons) Mathematics at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) because of our excellent reputation for student support. Due to her small and friendly cohort, she gained exceptional teaching and could book one-on-one support sessions if she felt like she needed a little extra help.

Equally, Savda admired the character of the teaching team. Their love of maths bounced onto student's mindsets, empowering them to prosper and succeed. This was another key reason why she chose UCLan.

Savda also spoke about her love of Preston and her cherished first impression of our Preston Campus. She was blown away by how vastly diverse and contemporary UCLan is as a place of study. She thoroughly enjoyed the bustling nature of the city, which is married alongside areas of natural beauty such as the beautifully persevered Victorian Avenham Park or the Georgian-styled Winkley Square Gardens.

"If a lecturer loves what they are teaching, it makes the students more likely to interact and grasp the concepts a lot better – that's what I got at UCLan."

Moreover, Savda appreciated the general location of the University Campus with the city centre – just a short walk to all the restaurants, shops and train station.

An unforgettable memory from her course was the residential trip to Wales in her first year. It was an excellent opportunity to get to know her coursemates and lecturers, and she got to take part in activities such as canoeing, gorge walking and hiking.

Looking to the future, Savda plans to develop a career in teaching and is undertaking a PGCE Secondary qualification in Mathematics.
