Urun Kilic Engasa
Urun is a full-time lecturer at The Grenfell-Baines Institute of Architecture. She is an ARB registered architect, designer, educator, and professional. She has a keen attention in conceptual ideas, creativity and has unique people skills. Urun is exceptionally passionate and interested in all aspects of design.
She is currently teaching BSc Year 3 design studio here at UCLan where she is also our module lead for the Professional Studies course for BSc Year 3. She is an active tutor in Hong Kong Studies Year 3 Design Studio and Professional Studies modules. Urun always maintains and aims to achieve professionalism in leading students in the preparation for RIBA Part 3 and their future career plans.
She has worked closely with RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects). She was, for several years, an Associate Lecturer at the Manchester School of Architecture and at the University of Liverpool/School of Architecture at both undergraduate and Master's level. She has extensive experience working with international students mainly from South East Asia.

Urun's research interests are in two areas specifically about Japan:
- Firstly, regeneration projects after natural disasters in cities and the architect’s role in providing safer living for the aftermath areas.
- Secondly, the architecture of Tadao Ando. The influence of traditional Japanese architecture on modern Japanese architecture. The creation of space with the appreciation of light, shadows, and materiality to highlight the beauty of simplicity and aesthetic beauty in an empty space.
