Laurie Smith
With an extensive background in SME development, entrepreneurship and leadership learning using innovative and creative approaches, Laurie teaches a range of subjects across different courses in the School.
Laurie's experience and expertise lie in using peer-to-peer learning approaches to help students apply their learning to their own real-world contexts. An expert in Action Learning and an experienced practitioner, he recently had a reflective piece published in Action Learning Research and Practice.
Since 2005, Laurie has worked closely with owner-managers of small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) on a variety of business and leadership development programmes. During this time, he has facilitated hundreds of Action Learning Sets and other peer-to-peer and reflective workshops for SMEs, CICs, charities and not-for-profit organizations. Laurie has also trained numerous colleagues to become Action Learning Set facilitators themselves.
Over the years, he has written articles and chapters on work-based learning, innovative practice, peer-to-peer and reflective learning and presented at conferences including the British Academy of Management and ISBE.
Laurie is interested in using creative and innovative approaches to teaching and learning. Not only is he a registered MBTI practitioner but he also uses concepts such as Lego Serious Play and Design Thinking and Ideation to enhance his teaching.
