Through her work here, Julie supports degree apprentices throughout their 3-year programme to meet Apprenticeship Standards, Social Work England Professional Standards and understand the links between theory, practice and critical reflection. She recruits new apprentices into UCLan in partnership with employers, completes induction, assessments and reviews of progress, training for work based mentors, has the tutor role during placements and facilitates application of learning and skills days on campus.
Julie’s roles as a social worker were with children with disabilities, adults with learning disabilities and adult safeguarding in 2 local authorities. She managed an integrated health and social care learning disability team in a local authority for 3 years, gaining qualifications in staff supervision. Julie's work within a domestic abuse charity involved multi-agency working with social care services, police, probation, health and education.
Julie facilitated her own off-site Practice Educator business for 8 years, assessing students on placement from UCLan, Lancaster, Salford, Liverpool John Moores, Cumbria, Edge Hill and the Open University. Placements included Youth Offending Teams, Princes Trust, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, Age Concern, Barnardo’s, homeless hostels, children and family centres, pastoral teams in primary schools, Refugee Action, domestic abuse services, National Autistic Society, carers centres, learning disability services and mental health.
Julie has further developed her interest in practice education through continuing professional development here. She has also developed knowledge and skills in adult higher education by completing the Associate Fellowship.
