Erkan Pertev
Erkan teaches a variety of courses in the area of management and related disciplines. With particular expertise in Human Resource Management, Erkan acts as a module leader for a number of identified modules. In recognition of his contributions to teaching, Erkan is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Erkan also supervises undergraduate and postgraduate projects on Human Resource Management, Organisational Strategy and Leadership, Workplace Diversity and Inclusion subjects.
Erkan's primary role is to teach courses and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and dissertations in the field of Business and Management. He is passionate about creating a supportive and intellectually stimulating learning environment for his students. He is dedicated to helping them develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Erkan's research interests revolve around the domains of talent management and workplace innovation. This showcases his engagement with pertinent and contemporary subjects within the field.
Overall, his role here involves a combination of teaching, research, and service to the academic community. He is committed to advancing knowledge and understanding in his field as well as contributing to the broader scholarly community through his teaching and research activities.
Erkan achieved his Bachelor's degree in Economics from Marmara University in 1997. He later pursued a Master's degree in Psychology of Management and Labour at the same institution in 2001.
In his professional journey, he gained 12 years of expertise in the training consulting sector. During this period, he actively contributed to project teams, playing a vital role in designing, developing, and implementing training programmes that aimed to enhance the competencies, knowledge, and overall performance of employees within various organisational settings.
While actively engaging in his career, Erkan earned an Executive MBA degree from Sabanci University in 2015. This educational endeavour included enriching international modules from distinguished institutions like the MIT Sloan School of Management and the University of Bologna Alma Graduate School. Fuelled by this diverse academic background, he made the pivotal decision to move into the realm of academia, embarking on a PhD journey in Work, Employment, and Organisation at the University of Strathclyde in 2016.
Throughout his pursuit of the PhD, Erkan assumed a tutorial position at the University of Strathclyde. He then became a part of the academic staff here. In these roles, he has taught a range of courses in HRM, ranging from Leadership and Change Management to Managing People, Learning and Development, Global People Management, Work and Organisational Change, and Research Methods in Business & Management.
Erkan's research endeavours are centred around talent management and workplace innovation. He has a focus that led him to present his research findings at the BUIRA Annual Conference. His active contributions to the academic community through both teaching and research demonstrate his continuous commitment to improving knowledge in his field.

Pursuing a PhD in Work, Employment, and Organisation from the University of Strathclyde, Erkan's research interests are deeply rooted in understanding the dynamic interactions between strategic talent management, workplace innovation, and organisational outcomes. His doctoral research, conducted under the guidance of Prof. Patricia Findlay and Prof. Colin Lindsay, focuses on examining how various strategic talent management efforts within the UK energy industry foster workplace innovation and generate positive outcomes for both employees and businesses.
Through a qualitative approach encompassing interviews with key stakeholders, Erkan delves into questions surrounding the alignment of talent management with HR functions, the impact of inclusive versus exclusive talent management approaches, and the integration of talent strategies with broader organisational goals.
