Research Centre for Business, Management and Enterprise

Institute for Business, Enterprise and Organisational Impact

The UCLan Research Centre for Business, Management and Enterprise addresses the UN-2030 sustainable development goals (SDGs) of achieving higher and sustainable welfare for all by 2030.

We bring together researchers and practitioners from different disciplines including education, health services, law, computing, digital and financial engineering, entrepreneurship, tourism, work and employment, economics, finance and banking. This helps us to better understand the global challenges that the organisers face in achieving higher and sustainable welfare for all by 2030. This goal is consistent with our School's mission - “to positively transform life through business and enterprise shaped by the latest research”.

Research areas

Our research activities are organised into four specialist areas:

The Applied Policy Science Unit apsu is an independent political science research unit located at the UCLan Westlakes Science and Technology Park, near Whitehaven in West Cumbria. The APSU’s mission is to make an original and independent contribution to policy and its implementation.

This unit undertakes academic research, consultancy and dissemination in the field of political science with a special focus upon the application of current policy problems.

In addition to UCLan staff involved in political science research and dissemination, the APSU also involves, as advisors, individuals who are professionally involved in politics, policy and government.

Postgraduate student supervision

There is postgraduate student supervision available from our academics in a wide number of areas:

"My doctoral journey at UCLan was excellent. I received valuable support from my supervisors and the additional benefit of high-quality academic conferences that I was able to attend and contribute to. My journey process has helped me develop self-confidence and critical thinking skills. These skills have definitely shaped my career path to becoming an independent researcher. The staff members that I met were supportive of my studies. I found a very caring and homely environment at the university. In addition, to the rigorous training, they also do an excellent job to prepare us with beneficial training programmes for research students. I am grateful to be a part of UCLan and I believe that my experience will help me to contribute more to my country and my field of study. It has been a great journey."
