Professor Ahmed Onsy wins prestigious European award
An engineering academic from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has been recognised for his entrepreneurial leadership skills with an international award.
Ahmed Onsy, Professor of Mechatronics and Intelligent Systems Engineering and Deputy Head of the School, won the People’s Choice Award for Male Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year at the 2022 European Triple E Awards in Higher Education, which are is open to all higher education institutions in the European region.
The Triple E Awards are a global recognition of efforts towards the quest for entrepreneurship and engagement in higher education. The Male Entrepreneurial Leader of the Year category recognises outstanding leadership performance in the development of an institution’s entrepreneurial profile.

Professor Onsy beat off competition from all across Europe to claim the award after impressing judges with his Multifaceted Entrepreneurial Leadership in Higher Education (MELHE).
This business approach has allowed the School to develop new degree courses and continuing professional development programmes, increase labs and equipment provision, achieve research goals and form engineering clubs, as well as building collaborations with industry and the higher education sector nationally and internationally.
Professor Onsy said: “I am honoured to win this award. This is a true reflection of the entrepreneurial collaborative work within the School and a culture that encourages teams to collaborate and create opportunities for our students to succeed.”
The Triple E Awards are organised by the Accreditation Council for Entrepreneurial and Engaged Universities (ACEEU).
The achievement has also been recognized by the Egypt Entrepreneurship Rally 2022 and received the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) Award at the Closing Ceremony of the Rally, presented by His Excellency Professor Dr Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the AASTMT, under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and His Excellency Professor Dr Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, Egypt.
