The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s The Pitch 2019 competition chooses top ten teams

A team of third year business and marketing students from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) has been shortlisted in the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)’s The Pitch 2019 competition.

Helios is one of the top ten teams from across the UK, and the only one in the North West, going through to the final round of the competition with a chance to win a £1,500 cash prize.

Now in its eighth year, The Pitch sees students from leading universities compete to respond to a live client brief in a bid to win the title of Marketer of the future. This year, teams put forward ideas to support Hawaiian Tropic’s drive to help young women feel confident and protected in the summer months.

Third year business and marketing students Nichola Hedger and Migle Seikyte impressed the judges with their response to the brief. The judging panel this year includes marketing experts from Hawaiian Tropic, LIDL, Printt, Mintel and CIM.

"I am delighted that once again students from UCLan have made the final shortlist. Nichola and Migle have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and now they have a chance to show off their excellent marketing talents to a panel of expert judges."

Nichola said: “I am delighted to make the final shortlist and proud to represent UCLan, which is the only North West university to get through. Our campaign is fun, fresh and energetic, which is What Hawaiian Tropic represents.”

The shortlist will then be narrowed down to three, with the finalists being taken through to the 2019 CIM Marketing Excellence Awards on 11 April where the winning team will be announced and presented with the ‘Marketers of the Future’ award.

Gemma Butler, marketing director at CIM, said: “We’ve been inundated with high-calibre applications this year. It’s been fantastic to get a glimpse of the student talent across the UK and we’re very much looking forward to seeing the finalists bring their ideas to life in the final held at Moor Hall on the 14 February.”

CIM and BA (Hons) Business and Marketing Course Leader from UCLan’s Lancashire School of Business and Enterprise Caroline Holliday added: “I am delighted that once again students from UCLan have made the final shortlist. Nichola and Migle have worked incredibly hard to get to this point and now they have a chance to show off their excellent marketing talents to a panel of expert judges.”
