Lancashire Law School shortlisted for most improved commitment to employability award
The University of Central Lancashire’s (UCLan) School of Law and Social Science has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award for its efforts to find more work experience placements for its students.
The department has been nominated for the Outstanding Contribution to Work Experience in the National Undergraduate Employability (NUE) Awards 2020.
The (NUE) Awards recognises increased commitment by university departments to help maximise work experience opportunities for its students.

The UCLan Law team will now find out if they have won when the final for the awards is held in London in February 2020.
Simon Price, Principal Lecturer in Law, Innovation and Employability at UCLan’s School of Law and Social Science said: “I am delighted our School has been recognised for the work we do in improving employability as this is something that is central to our core values for our students.
“Previous winners of this award have been university wide careers services, so to be shortlisted as a School is brilliant.”
Simon himself has also been shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Work Experience Award’ which recognises the invaluable contributions made by a particular individual within a university to help students apply and maximise their work experience opportunities.
This comes after Simon also won a UCLan University Stars award, voted for by staff of the University, for the Exceptional Student Experience category.
He added: “What makes this even better is the external recognition it brings. We spend a lot of time asking how we can improve what we offer to our students and the nominations and student prizes show that we’re doing a good job of that, and our students are reaping the rewards.”
It is not the only recognition for the University’s Law School this year. As well as hosting the 110th Society of Legal Scholars (SLS) conference, Jonathan Herd, a third year law student, won the prestigious national Neuberger Prize following outstanding work during the second year of his course.
The news comes after UCLan staged its 6th annual cJAM: Law event. cJAM: Law is an exciting showcase event which enables our talented law students to meet face-to-face with industry professionals, to share ideas, make connections and pitch for work placement opportunities.
This year, over 70 work placements were offered on the day, with law firms such as Forbes Solicitors, BLM Law, Napthens LLP, Turner White Solicitors and Harrison Drury Solicitors.
