Renewable Energy Engineering student Sylvia Sampong tells us about her experience

MSc Renewable Energy Engineering

Before 2018, I had been actively looking for scholarship opportunities. I was researching the subject areas that would suit me, both through the ‘shared’ and ‘general’ awards from CSC.

What intrigues me about UCLan was the specific programme and the city. I read about Preston being peaceful with purple flag status, which is really very important me and my family, to know that I would be studying and living in a safe location.

I was attracted to the placement offered with Renewable Energy Engineering and continued to read more online until I was sure this was the route for me. I was delighted to receive the news I had been successful and could start to make plans to join UCLan.

Arriving at UCLan on a Sunday evening, I received a good welcome and the campus is well sign-posted in colour codes, so all is clear. Also, helpers wear red t-shirts and are very willing to help and answer any questions. I enjoyed Welcome Week and received lots of great freebies and food!

Joining UCLan has been a wonderful experience. I have already been interacting with so many people of different nationalities, experiences and backgrounds. I am open-minded and look forward to meeting more people.
