Physician Associate student Nathalia Ogechukwu Mbaegbu shares her experience

Physician Associate Studies, MPAS (Hons)

Hi! My name is Nathalia and I’m a 2nd year student studying Physician Associate Studies at UCLan.

The sessions prepared me well as in the first year of my course, I have had placements in a GP surgery and also in the community with district nurses and health visitors.

Last year, I had the opportunity to go through consultations with GPs, which was invaluable as you pick up even more on what the job is about in real life situations. You also learn how to communicate effectively with patients, which further increased my confidence in the professional world.

"The life of a student in UCLan’s Medical School is varied, fast-paced and exciting. We have the opportunity to use some brilliant facilities at UCLan, such as the Anatomage tables, where we learn all about the anatomy of the human body and get hands on in our classes. The clinical skills labs are a realistic environment to practise in, which further gives us the confidence to translate what we have learned into the working world, with medical equipment and the opportunity to hone our skills on human simulators."

My experience so far has been brilliant. Already in my first year, I have had the opportunity to work in multiple different settings all through UCLan’s links with employers. My lecturers have been a huge support, they are always on hand to help and guide me with any advice I’ve needed. The whole environment of the university has been positive, there are many places close by to relax in between lectures and there is a general buzz around campus.

My advice for anyone considering studying a course at UCLan’s Medical School is to just go for it. The support is second to none and with the amount I’ve managed to accomplish in my first year, I can’t wait to see what’s next in my journey.
