Coming to University isn’t an easy task, but with the right mindset and determination you can make University the best three years of your life!
Going to university was always dominated by negative thoughts when it came to my own mindset. The thought of leaving my comfort zone behind to study miles away from home frightened me. But what was left in my hometown for me to work towards the career that I wanted? If I were to stay in that comfort zone then would I be able to make those important leaps of faith onto the pathway of success? The answer was no.
UCLan came as a surprise for me, I was just about to click send on my UCAS application when I stumbled across an advertisement promoting the university. I took a closer look at the university and was impressed by the facilities they had to offer. After confirming my love for the place at an Open Day, I put UCLan as my first choice. I never believed that university was the right path for me, but sometimes you just have to give it a go - even if that is only to attend the Open Day of a university you like.
Not only did UCLan offer me the steps needed to pursue a career as an actor, it also helped me expand on my skills as a human being. Before moving to Preston, I was very shy. I would never leave the house and the idea of going to a bar full of students on a Friday night terrified me. But since starting my studies here, my confidence has sky rocketed. Quiz nights, karaoke nights, get togethers, society socials - you name it, UCLan offers it all. And with Lampworks on site, you don’t even have to travel that far.
Sometimes in life you’ve just got to take a chance, you’ve got to put one foot in front of the other to achieve things you never thought you could achieve. You don't what’s around the corner and you never know what tomorrow can bring, so take that leap of faith - it could change your life forever. UCLan is a great place to start when it comes to making dreams into realities and putting you first.
Even though I'm in my first year of studying here at UCLan, I have grown both in my course and as a person. I have taken important steps to become a successful actor with amazing staff here to support me. They have opened my eyes to what my career could look like and how to make those vital steps into the industry.
