Dr Leila Eccles chose to study her BSc Psychology Degree at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and with the help and guidance of academics, achieved her dream role as a Senior Clinical Psychologist.

During her studies at University, Leila’s aim was to get into Clinical Psychology, an area which is very competitive. Realising her need to get hands on clinical experience for her CV, Leila took on the wide range of opportunities available to her during her course, including becoming a Special Support Assistant within a nursery to a child with Asperger’s Syndrome.

Leila looks back fondly on her experiences: “All this happened whilst I was still doing my degree. I would sometimes drive all the little ones to school in the morning on the school bus and then go straight to my lectures, then I’d leave my lectures and go pick them all up back from school at the end of the day!”

After graduating, Leila got further clinical experience and her master's in Counselling Studies before she achieved her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and qualified as a Clinical Psychologist. Her BSc proved to be a real springboard for Leila and she highly recommends the course for students of the future. “I think students are in a really good place for future opportunities. In terms of the degree itself, it covers all bases; it is very organised and you come out with all the skills set you require, and I came out feeling like I had covered all areas of Psychology.”
