Dr. Sarheed has published widely in formulation development and drug delivery and has more than 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and two textbook chapters. As a formulation scientist in industry, he was trained on the optimisation of formulation studies to meet the economic feasibility. He also has interests in the pre-formulation studies through the application of ultrasound to improve the solubility/dissolution of poorly soluble drugs and in its application in different aspects of colloids formulation science.
He obtained his PhD from Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences, University of Strathclyde. Then he worked as a formulation scientist in industry at Nemaura Pharma and Charles River Labs where he developed various formulations for internal projects and external sponsors for transdermal drug delivery and enhancing poor drug solubility for oral drug delivery.
Having worked in both academia and industry, his research and experience offers good relevance with many research and course offerings at our University.
Before joining us in 2022, he was an associate professor in RAKMHSU. He has expertise in curriculum development, quality assurance and enhancement of student experience across the pharmaceutical and biomedical science disciplines. He was responsible for organising the delivery of courses and engaging with feedback from students. In addition, he has gained experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
Omar collaborated with some Cosmetic Industries to develop in vitro testing methods for a range of topical cosmetic products and helped in the HPLC development methods. He also worked as a co-investigator in some phytochemistry projects developing antioxidants methods. He set up research projects collaboration with the Universities of Greenwich (UK) and Bayreuth (Germany) that is translated into the publication of two research articles.
