Jonathan Kemp

Jonathan is a Senior Lecturer, teaching on our Media & Television Production BA (Hons) and Filmmaking BA (Hons) undergraduate degree. Jonathan has a particular interest in Filmmaking and Cinematography. He is an award-winning writer/director of short films, and has published a book on Cinematography on the 'Focal Press' label by Routledge entitled, 'Film on Video - A Practical Guide to Making Video Look Like Film'. In recognition of his contributions to teaching, Jonathan is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Jonathan teaches across all three years of the Media & Television BA (Hons) programme, with a particular emphasis on Practical Camerawork, Filmmaking, Video Post-Production and Audio Production.

Jonathan is a Filmmaker with a variety of professional experience as a camera assistant, camera operator and lighting cameraman. As well as this, he has a lot of professional experience in post-production. He has written and directed short films that have won awards and been screened at international film festivals.

Jonathan is also part way through a PhD entitled ‘Engaging young adult audiences with Christian faith through filmmaking’ in which he seeks to devise a methodology for creating engaging stories for Christian cinematic works aimed at non-religious young people, and will then complete the film projects, reflecting on the effectiveness of each of them.
